The town of Greenburgh and Village of Elmsford have been working cooperatively during the past two weeks pulling material and obstructions out of the Saw Mill River. And under a bridge near Route 119. This initiative helps reduce flooding during storms. Areas around the Saw Mill River frequently flood. The town is also in the process of applying for a FEMA grant to lift up homes on Babbitt Court--the FEMA grant application is due in June and town staff are working with residents preparing the grant application. Raising homes will help residents avoid significant property damages after storms. In 2004 some residents of Babbitt Court received FEMA grants to raise their homes --and it helped. Five additional residents of Babbitt Court are now interested in also raising their homes. The FEMA application is very competitive.
