Insider News Center: From Greenburgh Insider: 24 hour mobile crisis team to be located at Greenburgh Town Hall.

Watch interview with Councilwoman Ellen Hendrickx who talks about her brother who lost his life due to mental illness.

The Greenburgh Town Board approved an agreement with Westchester County -establishing a Mobile Crisis Team that will be located at Greenburgh Town Hall. The county will assume the costs of the team. the team will have the responsibility of providing  24-hour mobile behavioral health crisis support when responding to emergencies. The MCRT program was a recommendation of Project Alliance, a task force created by County Executive Latimer in 2021 to help re-imagine policing in Westchester. Law enforcement training to help police effectively deescalate situations involving people with behavioral health challenges was determined a top priority, and as a result the MCRT program was formed.

County Executive Latimer  said: “Every emergency, every 911 call, is different. When our police respond to an emergency and it is clear that someone is struggling with a mental health issue, we want them to be armed with the tools that they need to prevent a serious crisis before it occurs. The Mobile Crisis Response Teams are designed to provide 24-hour, seven-day a week support to every community in Westchester, to make sure that police, EMTs and dispatchers have the appropriate resources to help people. Whenever possible, a mental health crisis should receive a mental health response, and that is exactly what the MCRT program does.”

The teams, which are co-located with the local police departments, have the responsibility of providing 24-hour mobile behavioral health crisis support when responding to emergencies. The MCRT program was a recommendation of Project Alliance, a task force created by Latimer in 2021 to help re-imagine policing in Westchester. At this ceremony, Latimer will also sign legislation aimed at helping our County’s veterans by waiving civil service examination application fees for those who have served. This new legislation unanimously passed the Board of Legislators.

Latimer said: “This measure is intended to serve dual purposes. First, the waiving of civil service examination fees is a real benefit the men and women who have bravely fought to protect the freedoms will all enjoy. Second, by waiving these fees we hope to encourage more veterans to join our County’s workforce – bringing their invaluable life experience and sense of service on behalf of others.”

According to New York State Law, local governments are authorized to establish a uniform schedule of reasonable fees for the administration of civil service examinations.

Veterans Service Agency Director Ron Tocci said: “Both this ceremony and the signing of this legislation are two of the many ways our County honors our veterans. Each day, my office looks to help those who have served and find new ways – like this new law – to provide that needed assistance.”

Insider News Center: From Westchester Insider: Westchester County: CONSUMER ALERT: HOME IMPROVEMENT CONTRACTOR SEASON IS UNDERWAY.

CONSUMER ALERT: HOME IMPROVEMENT CONTRACTOR SEASON IS UNDERWAY.

(White Plains, NY) – Each year, the Westchester County Consumer Protection Department (“Department”) aggressively pursues violations of Westchester County law requiring home improvement contractors to be licensed to work in our County. Now that it’s springtime – prime time for home repair work – it’s important for consumers and contractors to understand and follow these laws.

County Executive George Latimer said: “Operating without a home improvement license is a violation of law in Westchester County. If you’re hiring a contractor to do home improvement work, be sure to ask to see the contractor’s license.”

A list of all licensed contractors and a list of “renegade renovators” (contractors that homeowners should avoid) can be found on the Department’s webpage: consumer.westchestergov.com.  Also, residents should note that licensed home improvement contractors must display a green sticker on the rear bumper of their vehicles, which indicates the expiration date of the license.

Consumer Protection Director Jim Maisano stated: “Consumers need to do their ‘homework’ before hiring a home improvement contractor. The first step is to review the list of licensed contractors which can be found on our webpage. There are over 8,000 contractors licensed to do work in Westchester.”

Maisano added that whenever a consumer hires a contractor for home improvement work, there should be a written contract between the parties and a sample contract can be found on the Department’s webpage.

Additional information is available at www.consumer.westchestergov.com or contact Department of Consumer Protection at (914) 995-2155 or ConPro@westchestergov.com for assistance.

Insider News Center: From Greenburgh Insider: Masks required tonight...150 living history interviews with veterans to air Memorial Day weekend.

Interviews with 150 Greenburgh veterans (most of World War II and the Korean conflict) will air on Greenburgh public access TV non stop on Memorial Day weekend beginning Friday night at midnight until day until tuesday morning around  8 AM.

The living history interviews will play on channel 76 on Optimum and channel 35 on FIOS.  Each of the interviews is about half an hour and contain footage from the wars the Greenburgh heroes fought in. Some of the veterans who were interviewed have sadly passed. But, their contributions to our democracy will never be forgotten. It’s important that we give thanks to their bravery and patriotism.  And that todays students and tomorrows students appreciate the role Greenburgh residents played in preserving our democracy.   . The initiative was originally proposed by former residents Alan Hochberg and Steve Wittenberg. George Malone, the cable TV coordinator and Janelle Wallace who is the current cable TV coordinator assisted with the editing.

These living history tapes air every Memorial Day and Veterans Day and on weekends before or after the holiday and can also be streamed on the town website. The interviews were conducted over a dozen years ago.
