Our public City of New York (CUNY) and State University of New York (SUNY) Colleges and Universities are critical to the ongoing success of our State. Both university systems are vital socioeconomic engines which have propelled hundreds of thousands of low-income New Yorkers into the Middle-Class. It's important that they continue to have the resources they need to be the world class institutions they've always been, and foster the intellectual growth of all who seek a future through higher education.
The funding also increases the number of students eligible for TAP aid, which estimates say will help 75,000 part-time working students continue their college education. These students from hard working families have earned this help and the increase will mean fewer of them giving up on obtaining a degree.
