Department of Correction Hosts Event Centered on Empowerment, Perseverance and Community Service.
(White Plains, NY) – On March 30, 2022 the Westchester County Department of Correction hosted an event that was designed to provide support and inspiration for twenty-five female residents in their care. Keynote speakers, Yonkers City Council Majority Leader Tasha Diaz and Council Member Corazon Pineda-Isaac made onsite presentations that centered on empowerment, perseverance and community service.
In the spirit of empowerment and perseverance, the Correction Department and City Council members formally recognized and honored an amazing woman, Elder Wilhelmina Coleman.
Coleman has been providing Protestant services at WCDOC for over 33 years. At 93, she has dedicated her life to helping others in her community and at many area facilities. During her discussion with the residents Coleman said: “I’m delighted to be back here in person with members from my outreach ministry to provide spiritual support and guidance. I encourage each of you to take advantage of the programs and services at WDOC and in your communities upon return home. I’m also overwhelmed by today’s unexpected special recognition and want to thank County Executive Latimer, Commissioner Spano and Majority Leader Diaz.”
