Sen. Mayer, AMs Paulin, Burdick, Abinanti, Safe Horizon + Survivors of Sex Abuse Rally for Adult Survivors Act
WHITE PLAINS, NY -- April is Sexual Assault Awareness Month, and tomorrow the victim assistance organization Safe Horizon will join Senator Mayer, Assembly Members Paulin, Burdick and Abinanti, and survivors of sex abuse including Evelyn Yang, Asher Lovy and Donna Hylton, and advocates to rally for the Adult Survivors Act (ASA). The ASA is legislation that would provide a one year look back window for any survivor who was sexually abused as an adult (18+) to sue their abuser in civil court, even if the statutes of limitation has expired. It is based on the Child Victims Act.
The NYS Senate passed the ASA unanimously last year but the Assembly failed to move it forward. Earlier this spring, the Senate Judiciary and Finance Committees again passed the ASA, sending it to the floor for a full vote.
